Three friends went to a hotel. The bill was Rs 75/- Each one contributed Rs.25

The waiter took the bill to the cashier.

The cashier was happy & decided to give them a discount of Rs.5/- & asked the waiter to return them Rs.5

N ow the waiter was confused. How to distribute Rs 5 among 3 persons

He kept Rs 2 in his pocket & gave one rupee to each one of the 3 persons.

So initially each one had contributed Rs.25. Now as they are given 1 rupee back, their contribution reduces to Rs 24.

They all contributed Rs 24 -- that is 24x3=72 & 2 rupees are in the waiters pocket.

The total becomes 74. But they had paid Rs 75.

Where is the remaining 1 rupee?.

Check your pocket for 1 Rupee.
I do not know the answer. If you have solved this please let me know where is that one rupee.
Eat something and try again

Now to solve this problem 3 friends took 3 more friends and went to the same hotel. The bill came for 6 friends as usual Rs.150/-....Again they were given discount of Rs 5/-....again the waiter got confused....... So this time he kept the five rupees!!!!..

so ................now 8 friends want to solve this problem.........

Food costs $75. Discount given was $5. So the actual cost of food was $70. Then, the waiter took $2.

So the $72 includes the $2 taken by the waiter + the $70 they paid for the food.

To get the full amount, we should add the $3 they got back. 72+3 = 75.

correct

3 of them paid 25 initially and then got back 1 back. so each paid 24. which 3x24=72. waiter took 2. so total=74. so where did the 1 go?

this is a egg and chicken story.
